This opening speech aims to present the obligations now incumbent upon data controllers in the Principality (keeping a register of processing activities, appointing a Data Protection Officer in certain cases, data breach notification, etc.) and the new rights available to any data subject to maintain control over their personal data, as well as the strengthened powers of the protection Authority, particularly in the area of sanctions with the possibility of imposing fines.

The objective of this roundtable is to present the legal framework applicable in the Principality of Monaco, drawing a parallel with that existing in the European Union. Law no. 1.565 of December 3, 2024, relating to the protection of personal data, has considerably evolved the legal framework in the Principality, and Monegasque companies have adapted to integrate data protection into their daily practices. The objective of this roundtable is to present the applicable legal and regulatory developments as well as the practical implications for Monegasque companies and their data protection officers: new players in data protection compliance.

As a Data Protection Officer, CISO, executive, or even in a personal capacity, it's difficult to continue raising awareness about data protection in a context where massive data breaches are multiplying and data-hungry technologies such as’Artificial intelligence, develop.
