What upcoming developments are there regarding simplification, reduction, or even questioning of data protection in the European Union?
Alexandra Jaspar is the Director of the Authorization and Advisory Service at the Data Protection Authority (DPA), with over 25 years of experience in data protection, privacy, and compliance across both legal practice and leading organizations.
In her presentation, she will examine how the evolving geopolitical context is prompting European and national legislators to reconsider data protection, which is facing increasing pressure to reconcile the fundamental right to data protection with economic and political considerations.
As the ongoing trilogue between European Union institutions will be decisive in shaping the ethical and legal framework for tomorrow's data protection, many European organizations are increasingly turning to less privacy-friendly solutions, due to their reliance on foreign tech giants.
In his presentation, Baudouin will clarify the role of the EU Representative under Article 27 of the GDPR, which is often confused with that of the DPO. He will specify their legal responsibilities and strategic value for non-European companies, and will concretely illustrate how representatives handle Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), interact with authorities, and navigate regulatory complexity at the European level. The session will also highlight, through concrete examples, how managing DSARs can present an unexpected operational challenge for international companies.
Data protection requirements are well understood, but their implementation often remains complex. This session explores the latest trends from the privacy report and how industry professionals can better translate regulatory expectations into concrete solutions. It offers practical perspectives for embedding data protection into systems, processes, and governance, while navigating increasingly cross-functional environments.
Seemingly in agreement, problematic in reality: when the CIA triad doesn't tell the whole story of privacy
